You need a M10x1.25 tap .Search your area for a nut and bolt supplier, they should have both right and left versions. They can be ordered off the net from many places. I buy most of my things like that from McMasterCarr and Grainger.

Moe: There's nothing wrong with throwing a HeliCoil in there.

You only NEED reverse threads if you are going to use YAMAHA Mirrors.
Yammie thought it was an Engineering Coup to reverse the Threads on the Right Mirror.

All Aftermarket Mirrors will work with a HeliCoil.

((Maybe you want to run Yamaha Mirrors. Then what?
Get what you need to do "The Bolt Trick"
Reverse Thread Bolt with Matching Threads.
    3-In-1 Oil
    Teflon Tape
    JB Weld

Oil the Bolt. Wrap the Bolt with two layers of Teflon Tape. Mix-up some JB Weld and put some in the Hole and on the Tape-covered Bolt. Put the Bolt in the Hole. Squish the JB Weld down into the Hole around the Bolt. When the JB Weld starts getting tight ... Use your switchblade to remove the excess from the top of the Perch. Make it nice and neat. Be picky.

The JB Weld Cures and we get ready to see how well you Oiled the Bolt and if you taped it far enough so it comes out.

    Remember its REVERSE Thread.
    Take the Bolt out.
It should unscrew from the tape-lined new threads you made.)

Not quite. There are aftermarket mirrors with a left hand thread for right hand fitment on Yamaha.

You need to stay away from a mirror that specifically says Yamaha right side if you use a helicoil.

It wasn't an engineering coup, it's a clever bit of damage prevention.

If you snag either mirror on a Yamaha when the bike is moving forward, the mirror will simply unscrew rather than break the perch.

    (Provided it hasn't been overtightened.)

One more bit of trivia: Notice the "ticks" on the nut on the RH (left-threaded) mirror stalk? (Sometimes there's even a groove that goes all the way around, making it appear to be two nuts.) That is the universal indicator of a reverse-threaded nut. Usually there are just "ticks" in the points of the hex.

Yes it is an Engineering Coup.

    coup n.
a notable or successful stroke or move

    A smart move.
    Confusing to some.
    None the less brilliant.

All aftermarket mirrors will fit in a hole repaired with a HeliCoil.
Don't be afraid to order Mirrors with the Yamaha reverse thread.
Just don't fail to order and install the convenient adapter needed.
