Hi fellas, here's the thing I'm having nightmares about this week

I have recently acquired a UK spec XJ650 4KO, pretty much the equivalent of the US Seca. Originally this had a non-YICS motor but at some point in it's history it's head has been swapped for a YICS version, just the head, the rest is the original motor.

Now as far as I can see the non-YICS motor's tacho drive was built into the front of the head, somewhere around the exhaust camshaft but the YICS version connected somewhere different. So, because of the head swap I now have nowhere to connect the tacho cable

    1. Anyone got any ideas of how to get around this?

    2. Out of pure interest, where does the tacho cable connect into a YICS motor?

    3. What were Yamaha thinking?

Any help will be hugely appreciated, cheers, Andy

The new head came off a model with an electronic tach.

So three are three routes to take.

    1. install an electronic tach; either a stock one or aftermarket.

    2. Install a non-YICS head.

    3. Install an electronic rev-limiter, set to 9K, and don't have a tach.

#1 is the cheapest to do, but you'll have to wire it in yourself.

There is a #4, but I wouldn't do it personally. Shift by ear.

    Thanks guys
I didn't know that YICS models had electronic tachos, that certainly looks like the best option. Cheers
