Apparently the last owner managed to rip 2 of them out somehow probably screwing up the threads and all kinds of bad stuff.

So basically where can i find these things and can i just coat them in some jb weld when i put them back in and rely on them to competently hold my header?

    Running out of ideas

Which bolts are these? Could you be a little clearer? I'm thinking your referring to the exhaust stud nuts but I'm unsure. The exhaust down pipes are held in place by studs. If you have bolts, they have been swapped out (possibly because of being stripped out). I would highly recommend a Heli-coil to repair it, not JB Weld (and I do love the stuff). Expansion from heat cycles will make your repair a VERY short lived investment. Best I can do with the description you've posted 82. Please write back with more details.

You could always drill and tap the next size up! But then you would have to figure out how to get the larger bolt through the exhaust. I would have to agree with Robert that Helicoil is the best way to go.

Make the investment in the heli-coil kit, you'll be glad you did in the long run. I would recommend returning to the stud/nut combo if you can. Bolts will give a greater chance at stripping out the head (lessened somewhat with the heli-coils but still an issue). Copper nuts are a good way to go, they will give out before your stud gets dorked. I've been blessed with stock equipment in good shape so I don't have the experience with my bike but my VW background proves the point well. Good luck to you 82.

I would love to stick with the stud/nut combo but im having a little trouble finding parts. Anyone know where I can get some?

Also Im not exactly excited about spending around $70 on 2 heli-coil kits. I have a friend that is a professional welder im going to ask him if he thinks he can weld the studs in. I dont know this is probably one of those stupid ideas ill end up regretting later.

    Thanks

Yamaha still stocks the studs and nuts for the exhaust. I picked up one stud a few weeks back from my local dealer for $3.13 cdn. They also had the nuts in stock but I didn't need them, pretty nutty all on my own!

I would drill and tap to next size or use heli coils, don't think I would go with the welding, down the road when something breaks again you have a bigger mess to deal with!

Nick is right. You can source the studs from BikeBandit, and there is a site that will sell OEM parts for a fraction of the price of the dealer so long as you are willing to look up the factory part numbers and basically type out the order form (saves them paying some parts monkey to sit there and do it for you). That site's address is on the computer at home, I'll get it later, unless one of our other readers cares to supply it before I do (hint, hint, back me up here guys). The heli-coil kits are a capitol investment that will pay off in lack of headaches later on (don't weld them in, you will regret it). Steel welded into aluminum? You'll melt your head, don't waste the time. Do the job right, you'll be glad you did.
