Well when it rains it poors as in my previous post Iv just changed my engine on my xj900f for the beter I'm unsure
Anyway rode it to work and back as its first run about 36miles
On the way back noticed my indacators getting slower I got home and tryed to start the bike again turned over very slow tested the battery just under twelve volts! I changed over the alternator as new engine didn't have one well it was just the windings and the cover with the brushes in it! The windings didn't come out the old engine easily as they were stuck in but I got them out! Also somebody in there wisdom had removed the plug for the windings and crimped the wires together! it all worked faultlessly on my old engine the battery is only few months old!
Where on earth do I start on these systems !!!
    Cheers Pete

    Thanks Adrian
Iv done some testing rotor and brushes seem fine!
And I don't think the symptoms point towards the RR
Stator seems abit suspects! Reading are not as per manual or the web page
Only things is the tester I'm using is a cheap old one
I don't understand how it worked before it was swapped
Unfortunately I don't have a spare stator so are there any further tests
I can do to make sure before I pay out for a replacement
    Thanks pete

How many volts are you getting at the battery when running?

Volts go down once the bike is started its like there is nothing coming out of it atall! It's like its Just running purely on the battery

You appear to have done "some" tests with a suspect meter but your tests are inconclusive. If you follow the chart in the link I posted you will have a definate answer.

By "brushes seem fine" I assume you are very confident they are in spec and not sticking in their holder?

What is the history of the replaced alternator?

Hi On the link that you sent me on the D part it mentions put the spare wires (not the white ones)to the positive of the battery and the negative witch I take by the spare wires it ment the brown and green ones that go to the brushes/rotor this caused some sparking when connecting them To the battery and caused the bike rpms to dip slightly when connected and the engine was running witch I thought didn't seem right but I could be wrong! So incase I was doing something wrong stopped that test! In the Haynes manual the white wire say they should test at 0.46 or something like that and mine are reading 1.8/1.6 witch seem quite a lot out!
Rotor tests with in tolerance and and brushes look pretty new and also in tolerance
The stator and brushes came off my old engine witch I had been commuting to work with every day for 2 months or so and the only reason I changed it is because the gearbox gave up and the new to me engine never came with these part so swapped them
The stator windings did not come out easily they were stuck in and had to use a lot of wd40 and prising and wiggling with screwdrivers for about a hour to get it out the casing on the engine!
    Thanks so far pete
