My Seca 550 has Maxim 550 mufflers on it. I don't mind them, but I was wondering if people fit other kinds of mufflers to XJs, and if so what they are.

I have generic Dunstall-style ones on my XS, and I'm pretty sure those would fit, but I'm curious about what else it out there.

I think JAMA exhaust makes nice headers and mufflers for XJs but they're not cheap.

Polock, what model was that and what header is that connected to? any special adapter or mid-pipe required?

I have an old Yoshi R&D can on my Maxim 550. It looks odd but the exhaust note greatly outweighs the lack of aesthetic appeal.

Looks like I just got lucky, picked up this bad boy for 90 bucks, now I just need a mid-pipe:

I guess I'll be better off just bringing the MAC muffler to a metal shop with the supertrapp, here's hoping it'll be painless :)

Is upjetting recommended after a muffler change?

In a carburetted bike you almost always will need to change jets when swapping exhaust systems. What direction, and how much, will depend on what system you choose.

I understand that, but since this is not a full exhaust swap, but just a muffler I was wondering if it effects a/f that much.

I was thinking about installing a sportster muffler only. It seems lie a common swap.

The muffler is what makes the A/F go all crazy. Less or more Back pressure.

Sportster mufflers might not be too far off. I'd do the swap near the end of the riding season so re-jetting won't be as big of a deal (if you need to do it).
