    Hello,

Its been quite a while since I've been on this site, some of you may or may not remember me from back then. I had a beauty '83 Seca 550 that I rode the heel out of then sold - http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=1783.html .

I left the realm of street bikes for a while and started racing enduros and hare scrambles. Since then I've bought a house, gotten married and had a kid. I have no time or money for the off-road bikes anymore (well, of the motorized variety) so I thought it might be nice to have a street bike again. I could ride to work, do some Sunday afternoon cruising with my dad, etc.
Just my luck when I spotted an '82 Seca 550 on the local classifieds that needs some work. Checked it out and brought it home.

Here is what I'm starting out with...

    The good:
    -22,000km
-Hindle 4-1 exhaust in decent shape
    -Bike is complete
    -New tires
    -purrs like a kitten

    The bad:
    -starter mounts are broken
    -fork leaks like a sieve
    -seat needs recovering
-previous owner went bat-shit crazy with blue silicone on the valve cover.

    More to come.....

After a few hours in the shop the bike was ripped down and the engine pulled out. After years of working with 2 stroke dirt bikes I forgot how heavy these street bike engines are. I did get it out all in one piece though.

Carbs will be one of the first parts I clean / inspect / repair as needed.

You should remove the oil pan and check the oil pick up for blue silicone bits. Now is a good time to check valve clearance. Ontario 550 Seca's rule. Where you are in Ontario are you? I got extra parts like side covers.

Yes I'll be checking out the pickup screen for silicone. I just can't believe how much of the damn stuff they used

I'm in Simcoe, not too far from you at all.
