94 yamaha xj600 with new carbs and engine. Traded my 90 nissan 240 for it. sadly it doesnt start. The previous owner said it starts but when he decided to put boots on to connect the carb to the air box it stopped running. It starts up and idle for a bit and then dies or if i hit the throttle it dies.

Idles till you apply throttle. Idle circuits seem to be working good.
Sounds like a carb sync issue?

is it blowing black smoke ? Dont know if you trust what the former owner says or not but if it ran before he put the air box on hows the filter? Thats about the only thing it can be. Your getting fuel out of the petcock correct ? Are the plugs wet? If the plugs are not wet and your getting fuel out of the petcock i would say more then likely floats are off. If it was the idle circuit plugged if you could coax it up to 2k or so should start running on the mains

get your carb problems figured out before you try to sync them. The bike has to run right or you will be wasting your time. There are articles in here on how to do it and even how to make your own gauges good luck
