Ok so...here's the plan... I want a seat that's more slimline - cafe-ish but I don't want to lose the option for two-up with the wife/mistress.

My idea is to take a stock seat pan, cut it down and then re-foam / fiberglass it in such a way that it looks something like a single seat with a race hump.

I got the seat pan thanks to a member here and got it cut down to the basic shape. It still needs a lot of sanding and finer shaping but you get the idea....

Next I have to figure out how to create the upper shape I want. I'm thinking fiberglass but will fiberglass stick to the plastic?

if you use liquid nails you can make anything stick!

Haha - fair enough - I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with fiberglass sticking on it's own to plastic. All the things I've seen on fiberglass seat making are focused on making it not stick - blue-tape, release agents etc etc - I have the other problem :).

I have however decided to try making my shape out of spray insulation foam first so I'm going to give that a shot and see what happens.... this is the cutting each of MacGiverist Dohackery, I may die, I may find Narnia or if I'm very luck I might just make a damn ugly seat... :D

i found some purpleish Styrofoam stuff at home depot in 2 foot x 2 foot sheets 2 inches thick that works good to cut into little blocks for filling those cavities. then rough shape it with 80 grit paper.
over that i put the blue foam insulation, shaped it, then carpet pad for padding. hold it all together with 3M spray contact adhesive, #77 i think it was. i found the foam in a can is really messy and too soft to support anything, it melts other kinds of foam too :(

Thanks for Pollock - I already started with the spray-can foam - so I'm going to see how this plays out - you maybe right - we will see. If it doesn't work it's just a case if pulling it off and starting over with that purple stuff you mentioned.

I had this curing on the shelf in the garage and my wife comes running out shouting about a "huge f***ing nest" -- hahahaha..

when I cut my seat down. I drew out with a silver marker where I was going to cut
then took a jigsaw and went to town
removed all the staples from the seat
and used a bread knife and carved down the existing foam
then used yoga mat to soften the seat
then covered it, I used 3 layers of yoga mat
to fasten the seat I drilled a hole and put a 2 inch bolt so I could fasten
with a bolt and lock washer from under the fender
used spray adheisive and covered the seat
turned out great however this winter as soon as my hands are healed I will
be purchasing a gel pad and cutting it into the seat then reupholstering the seat
with a black covering this time
my ass just got too sore on long trips
