Bought the tank off of ebay. NOS, never used... ever. Was still packaged in the original box (which was crusty as hell and from Japan with the date of production stamped well enough to see 11 and 1982).
Brought the tank to TS Customs here in Waterford WI. This was the final piece in this stage of my xj 550 maxim project/tribute. Also posted on my project thread. Will be posting pics of the entire bike soon and also making a youtube video.
The bike is not finished. But this stage of the project is. I am just riding now and mainly just going to keep up with maintenance this season.
Will be on here a lot though. One thing I am going to have to do (as I didn't consider it before) is modify the seat so that it doesn't overlap the tank as much as it does. At the moment it covers the words at the bottom.

very nice tank can't wait to see the rest of the bike. Mine is presently undergoing a complete frame, and fender paint.

I won't mess with the frame and all til next winter. I am not looking forward to taking everything apart and am wondering if there is a way to refurbish the frame without stripping it bare. But the frame on a bike is so important. To me, If someone says "restored" I look at the frame to see if that has been painted or powder coated
