I've always liked to have somekind of luggage (saddlebags) on my bikes when I reds for my raingear, bungy cords, etc. Then I cam accross a rollbag that is ridged and comes with a backrest for the driver to lean back against. It's called the Biker Friendly bag. Here's the site:

And there's another one called "Lazy Rider" which is just about identical.
So I figured I'd just find the suitable materials and make my own. The inside plastic cylinder was going to be that hard part to figure out what to use. Then I thought about using some round concrete form cylinders (stiff cardboard) which has been used by others in the past. Then I discoverd a plastic trash recepticle (one of those that has an ash tray on top) and it's just the right size!
So after collecting all the neccessary hardware I still have to make the backrest to velcro onto the bag yet. Here's what it lookslike so far:

I will probably make the pad out of the same material I used to cover the bag with with some type of firm foam inside. Or maybe even a Memory foam pad I found at the local Fleet Farm store ($8) that just might be the cats meow!!
I'm going to use the 3M dual lock fasteners instead of Velcro because I found it to be far superior for its holding power (kinda "snaps" together)

Painter, I made a similar thing for the tools on my boat, but used plastic drain pipe with screw end caps, light & totaly waterproof.

    Lanthren,
Not a bad idea, I'm sure it would work. Or even molding fiberglass inside the tube would work. Heck, I"ve seen some use the cardboard concrete tube itself. They have some kind of water proofing in them or you could just give it a good layer of paint to seal it.
