I was looking for an XJ750 for sale close to me and came across the forums. I rode a 1982 xj750 Maxim for near 10 years and loved it so much that I wanted another one. If only I had all the information here in the 90's when I had that one. I got a great deal on this one. It had a stuck float in the carb. I took it off today and will clean them good tomorrow. The float was really stuck on the one. There was a lot of gunk around the float pin. It sure does take patience to take the carbs off. I took them off so many time on my first one, it seemed like I could do it blindfolded. The gas tank had rust inside. Adding a fule filter didn't help it much. Occasionally I would have to take off the carbs and clean the rust particles out of the screens. In the few days here I have learned more than I ever knew before. The first one I found was sold when I called about it. I am so glad I found this one. It would have sold later the afternoon I got it more than likely. Two others were coming to look at it so I had to hurry and drive about 2 hours one way to get there first. The corbin seat is in perfect shape and the new tires on it have only about 50 miles on them. It only has about 13k miles on it. My last one had well over 50k in the end.

Sweet! Congrats, and welcome back to the wonderful world of XJ owners!
How much did this set you back, if you don't mind my asking? Looks nice.

I paid $600 for it. Guess I can add the $50 in gas it took to go pick it up. The carbs are a little worse than I thought and I need to get a couple of parts for them. I think it sat for at least one winter. Then he started it and rode it a little, and a month later it wouldn't run and it sat for another winter. Well it ran but barely. It may be a couple of weeks before I can get insurance and have it registered anyways, So I am not in to much of a hurry for the carbs. Taking the carbs apart and cleaning them is easier than taking them off the bike and putting them back on for me.

I will have at least $1000 in it by the time it's up and running good. It will be my primary transportation so all year is my riding season.
