Just thought I'd throw out a couple of pics of my bike since I've gotten it cleaned up (still want to shine up the engine a bit more). Any ideas on what I should do to it after the snow starts?

you can remove the crank case covers & the alternator cover & shine them up on the bench, much easier.

I honestly hadn't thought of that. I'm not one to take something apart unless I absolutely need to. Time to get out of that habit, it would seem. Thanks!

I'm in the process of shining the crap out of my engine. Hands are a bit sore from all of the sanding, I got a ton of sick metal on the bits that are supose to shine. I'm using graduating wet sandpaper and then fininshing off with 3 different buffing wheels with brown, white, and then green jewelers rouge to really bring out the shine, getting close to looking like chrome. All of the pieces had to come off the bike to really get into the corners. I got the idea off this forum after seeing what can be done. You might need to use some sort of stripper to get off all of the old sick laquer to get at the metal. Good luck!

Looks great. I pulled my starter to shine it's end cap along with the crankcase covers and alternator cover. Much easier on the bench.

But what about the fins? Is there any way to make them look good? I can't imagine trying to polish them, but my are oxidized. Suggestions?

For the fins, and "rough cast" stuff that needs to stay rough-cast: I use a product called "VIM" (Canadian, I believe) which is similar to Ajax or Comet LIQUID kitchen cleansers, mildly abrasive with some sort of bleach. I work it into the fins and such with a stiff brush, let sit for a few, and then flush with water (NOT HIGH PRESSURE.) Engine-Brite's new Citris degreaser works quite well too. VET, after you've done all that, follow up with Mother's, by hand. You'll be amazed.
