    Hi All,

Tried to do a Carb Clean and trashed my number 4 carb. Kind of scared about doing the other three now. On the bad carb I trashed one of the Chrome cover screws (but managed to get it off). Then I trashed the Choke pin (by trying to remove the choke assembly). Bottom line I tried to take apart as much as I could then dip the entire carb in cleaner (I removed the jets separately).

I was a little concerned about the Floats, Choke rubber grommet, and Bowl Gasket when dipping and tried to remove them too, but gave up, and dipped the carbs with them on (hopefully that's not to bad an idea -- even though the carb dip says it is -- any suggestions on this are welcome).

Anyway does anyone have the Carbs or Carb parts? and also are there any recommended carb "restorers" on the board? I am in Suffolk County, NY and would love to get the bike back on the road before summer kicks in. I figure I can do the Valve's while I am waiting on the carbs...

    Thanks for any Help!
    CR

I don't know if anyone does it as a business, but I'd be willing to take a look at 'em. Can you post some pics?
Last I knew refurbing costs ~$75-100 each for parts depending on what needs replacing. Figure another ~$250-300 in labor and you can see where it can rack up costs very quickly. If your slide diaphragms need replacing it's gonna be even more $$.

Regarding the carb dib/floats/rubber bits: Not a good idea, depending on how long it was in the dib you may need to spend more money.

    Hi Skills
Thanks for the response. I only dipped the floats/rubber parts on one carb and for a very short period. I won't do that again, but the parts still look good, so I guess I was lucky.

I will try and post some pics too, but I'll have to figure out how photobucket works.

    Talk to you soon,
