I have tore apart the carbs to clean them out, and when I flipped the body rack over, (I'm not separating them - just clean & adjust) a small washer and o-ring fell out. It appears to be from the idle/air mixture screw, but I can only find one. Either I lost the other 3, or they were never there. The OEM Microfiche doesn't have these parts showing on the carb breakdown. (or at least I can't see them)

BTW - The last person that did the carbs had the float bowls switched, so they may have been removed then. Plus 2 of the idle mixture screws were screwed in tight.

1 - I am correct in the location of these parts, yes? (o-ring/washer). They go under the spring of the idle fuel/air mixture screw.

2 - Any idea where I can get these pieces without having to by complete kits. (I do have a XJ900 I could get them from - if they'll fit)

    Help please - Thank you

you might have some luck at a local bike shop if you're in a hurry. i bet chacal, here, can help you out (send him a PM). he ships very fast.

and yes, under each idle mixture screw there is a spring, washer, and o-ring.

i'd fish down in the hold to make sure they're actually gone - i've never had them fall out - i have a dental pic that i use to hook them and pull them out of the hole.

you're lucky that you at least have one washer and o-ring to compare sizes.

HITACHI IDLE - PILOT MIXTURE SCREW PARTS:

NOTE: idle mixture screws are also referred to as "pilot mixture screws" or "pilot screws".

If you've never delved into the guts of your carburetor idle mixture screw port, it can sometimes be confusing. Here's the playbook for this critical area:

If we were looking at a cut-away of the carb body/idle mixture screw bore, the order of parts, from bottom to top, would be:

    a) HCP895 o-ring
    b) HCP896 spring seat washer
    c) HCP6573 tension spring
    d) the idle mixture screw
    e) the anti-tamper cap.

What is mostly confusing is the order of the o-ring versus the spring seat washer....which goes in the hole first? The answer is that the HCP895 O-ring does. The HCP896 washer primarily acts as the lower "seat" for the HCP6573 tension spring, while also keeping the o-ring firmly and securely in place.

You might find that they are not lost.
Just "Stuck" at the bottom of the Hole.

    Take a large "Darning Needle"
Heat the Needle's pointed end until red.
Bend a >> TINY << hook at the end.

(A Large Safety Pin will do the trick, too.)

I found the all o-rings - scattered about the floor of the garage. I must have blew them out with the hose. I have only 1 washer. I swept the floor looking for it, but couldn't find the washers. I will dig through my carb box to see if I can find some, if not, I'll just have to order them.

    Thanks

Tape a Magnet to a stick and "Sweep" the area where you think they might have gotten spilled.

you *might* be able to make some washers out of an old beer can. i think the purpose of the washer is to either protect the o-ring from the spring or maybe spread out the pressure from the spring on the o-ring.

if i were to try that, i'd be very carefull to make sure it's nice and flat, nice and round, and no burrs.

also, the metal on the top and bottom of a beer can is thicker than the sides.

others may advice against this, but i think fixing stuff with pieces of beer cans is pretty cool.

Already tried the magnet trick, found one.

I'm going to pass on the beer can. I don't have any punches to do that, and yes the washer is to keep the o-ring from tearing.

I am going to check the local autoparts, and my bro's shed. I have a box of old tillsons there. If I can't find any, I'll just order them from chacal.

Thanks for all the help. It's nice to know there are people out there that are willing to help out in such a short period of time.

    No need to Fabricate.
There's plenty of 'em in OLD Electronic stuff.

Do you really think that old Walkman will ever be used again.
    NO.
It needs to donate parts to your Bike.
