Need parts... yes im poor :)

I honestly cannot afford 40 bucks to replace my steering head bearings. I want to ride my motorcycle. That leaves me a dilemma and short of putting the forks back on with no bearings I have no solution but to see if someone has some laying around they could part with cheaper. If theyll get me by for a couple of months I want them!

So in summary I need steering head bearings for an 81 550 maxim. I dont care if theyre the stock ball bearing set up or the sealed setup. I will pay a little but not alot just because I cant afford it. I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas of what I could do for something to get by or if someone has some they could part with cheap.. heck Ill buy you a new set in a couple of months if you want em replaced. Id like to fix this bike rather than sell it. I could save a ton in gas by riding it to work. Thanks alot.

PS.. could also use some mirrors if someone has some laying around they could part with cheap.. dont have to be pretty.. just functional.. mine came without mirrors.

 

Almost forgot.. I need a speedometer as well.. the face inside mine just broke in half for no apparent reason.. it still does work and I can still guess about where I am but a new one would be better. Thanks

That bike is GROUNDED until you can get some bearings in there. Are you kidding me???

You try riding that thing with NO bearings in there and your trip is straight to the Emergency Room. That's the CRAZIEST thing I have ever heard of in a long time. Forrest Gump would know better!!!

Make up a big cardboard sign sayin' ... "I need 30-Buck's so I don't KILL MYSELF" ... tie it around your neck and take a long walk to some Rehab Hospital and say hello to some guy in traction.

When he asks you about the sign ... tell him about how you were planning to put the bike together without any headset bearings ...
He'll probably laugh for the first time in weeks.

 

Rick is right. Hit your buddy or Mom up for 40 bucks as an early birthday present. It isn't worth your life.

Not that it is a recomended idea but I believe I have a set on an extra tripple tree set i have from a 85 xj700 if they will interchange to keep you from killing yourself.

If you are this hard up, maybe you should just put the bike project on hold until you get enough funds, we are all here to help one another but come on man, this isn't a soup kitchen.
