My petcock has been leaking gas for some time now. It does not leak into the carbs, it functions fine without problems. Where it leaks is in the back of the petcock from the diaphragm. It kind of spurts gas out of the petcock body. What would be the best recommendation for fixing this? Should I buy a diaphragm repair kit?

make sure all the little bolts are tight, if that doesn't stop it get a kit from Chacal.

I tightened the bolts in the back. For the most part I would say they were able to turn a full turn without damaging the screws. The petcock first started leaking after I was hit from my left side. I let it run for a little bit and didnt see anything leaking out. Sometimes it leaks and sometimes is doesnt though.

If it's spurting gas out of the side of the petcock body, it's probably coming out the little vent passage on the "dry" side of the diaphragm, and it shouldn't be.

Almost for sure you have a holed diaphragm. Get a rebuild kit from chacal, the "how to" is here: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=25058.html

Take your time, do it right, and it will be better than new.

Good call fitz. Checked it again while running, was a little less but still spurting out gas. :(
