    Hello all.
I have a 82 xj750j maxim, and i need to know if the cam chain tensioner is manual or auto. I have done the search of forums and only found answers for a 1100 and 550. also i have looked at diagram on bikebandit.com it shows no nut on the tension bolt. is it the bolt right in the middle of engine below carbs? i have loosend the bolt and i heard a click might have been bolt breaking loose. any help is gladly taken.
(i put notch in the middle of the c on the points plate.)

If you have a bolt sticking out the side of the tensioner, you have a manual tensioner. The click you heard when you loosened the bolt was the tensioner making contact with the cam chain again.

The automatic tensioner has a cap nut at the end. The manual tensioner has a bolt in an extension of the housing sticking out from the side of the main tensioner body along with an end cap. Most 750's have the automatic. But these things get changed out over the years and the auto or manual may be on yours.

hey thx i have a auto tensioner. and a another question.
when tuning the carbs, when it says 2 1/3 turns does it mean turn the screw completly around or is it start here and stop there?
(im used to working on early model cars with big carb tuneing screws)
like one point of the screw is the marker do i turn it past that mark once or twice?

HI , 1 turn is 1 full turn [360 degrees] 2 is 2 full turns and 1/3 turn is just that....

that is after "gently" turning in until fully seated...
