    I am thankfull for help I got on this site. so, to help others.


    To reuse copper sealing rings on the banjo fittings on New brakelines.

    heat rings to cherry red then quench in water while still red. This expands copper and restored its ability to seal. Do not over heat or the ring will melt. Has worked for me for years on tractors and combines etc.

    The only time I’ve ever bought new crush washers was because I lost one, or it was if the hollow type that can’t be reused.

    Annealing is the way to go.

    Note for those not in the know: this method of Annealing only works with non-ferrous metals. Annealing ferrous metal requires a slow cooling.

    yes ,done this myself, but would have thought its only good if the washers are in good condition , if they are dished or scoured by tightening, i would bin them

    I have (in a pinch) sucessfully straightened dished crush washers during the heating process. A light tap with a ball peen hammer while the washer is on a flat anvil works perfectly.
