Hello, I've used this site alot whenever I have problems with my bike and everyone has been very helpful. I have an 83' XJ750 Maxim. The problem isnt with my bike though its my friends. last week my friend bought an 82 XJ650 Maxim. as hes been driving it I have noticed 2 problems

The first problem is that he has a tube that traced up looks like its comming out of the air box and oil drips out when the bike is warm. I went into the airbox and can't see where he tube is coming from. the oil window is full and black even on the kickstand so my guess is that there is to much oil in there. I looked on my 750 and I do not have the same tube.

The second problem is from when I opened the airbox, I pulled the air filter out and it was all wet on the other side. I rubbed my finger on the wetness and smelled it. it smelled like gas so I am guessing its a problem with the floats but I can't be sure unless I open everything up. I know its a bitch getting those things off which is why I figured I'd check here first and see if any of you guys have any other ideas of what it may be.

thanks for your always quick responses

That tube is the crankcase vent hose. It connects the crankcase to the air box so that the fumes get combusted in the engine. If its dripping, then its deffinatly a float problem. Clean those carbs!!

I had the exact same symptom with my 80 xj650 and MrShake is right its definately a float in the carbs. Although with my bike if the petcock was set on prime the fuel flowed freely onto the ground warm or cold engine. After the carb clean no problems.

Drain all the oil right now! He just cleaned his engine with gasoline.
Check oil on Mainstand level with Top of glass window.
He has float and petcock problems to fix (I'd bet).
