Hows it going I have had a 1980 xj650 for about three years. I got this bike for free from a friend and it just needed carb work. After that I rode it for a year and had to change the head gasket and replace the front tire. Since I did that over last winter it has ran great. The only mods I have done are a set of saddle bags and cut the mufflers off and installed a set of turnouts on it.

Welcome! I have had mine about the same. I think my head gasket is going as well, minor oil leak and all, but it still runs good.

What sequence serial number on yours? They start at 101 and go up. Mine is 323 (or number 222 off the assembly line).

I may just have the oldest XJ on the road (for U.S. models anyway)

    Welcome to the site

    Looks nice.

I need to replace my head gasket too. Winter project.

How is route 20 for riding out your way? I'm thinking about a ride to Galena.

Be sure to check the rear brake for delamination - It could save your life.

Also consider upgrading the ancient fuse panel to a modern one. I'll be posting another DIY picture based post probably tomorrow, using the parts from Chacal.

    Oh and hi from Bourbonnais!
