Just got a really nice 86 700 w/ less than 6k miles. Any recommendations on what to check based on age? Tires and fluids are a given, how about the cam chain guides or tensioner? I am a Honda nut and if considering any real riding I have replaced them on older units, like the 60's / 70's.
I am really excited about learning about the Yamahas and the XJ's are the most appealing to me.

    Also, has anyone done a turbo from a 650 on a 700 / 750? Is it possible?

    Thanks, Ed

Welcome to XJBikes! I was a Honda man myself, but Yamaha is like the lesser known more talented brother in my opinion now. Congrats on your new old bike w/low mileage. This site is loaded with all the advice and info your going to need. Brakes are first on my list since it really hurts to loose them or have them lock up at speed. Search for delamination and check for old components up front. Then even with your low mileage check your valves and go from there-get a manual and go through all the maintenance regardless of mileage just to be sure since the bike is 25yrs old.

Not sure about your turbo question never dealt with it. But I will tell you that my 550 is plenty fast w/o one. Smoked a friends 90's model 650 easily-he was shocked and impressed.
