I had put together a working speedo drive gear. I got a few miles out of it. When I took apart the failed unit, the cable had sheared off down at the bottom. After putting a good cable down into the tube (and drive gear) it sheared off again after a few dozen miles.

Any idea why? I lubed and greased everything pretty well.

The tube? Doesn't look like it but I'll re-examine it.

Yea flex the cable housing and see if there is a bad spot in it. The plastic on the outside might be ok but the inside could be bad. That could bind the cable and snap it.
