Ok. You all seem to be pretty smart........
Since my last post my xj750 has been running pretty good, however when
I was leaving for work yesterday, it sounded like the #4 carb was spitting.
I had to get to work so I still drove it in (3 miles) and it ran rough all the way,
same thing happened on the way home, now it won't stay running without holding throttle. When I let go RPMs stay high for a few seconds then drops,
    and still spitting and sputtering.

    Any suggestions or ideas???????

Turn out the lights and see if your spark plug cap is sparking to the head. Check for spark by pulling the plug and grounding it and seeing if you have spark.
If it is the coil, then the #1 cylinder would be having problems too.
You can check for air leaks using propane.

I have good spark to all 4 plugs.
    No arching of wires.
Still have reving problem, rev it and it will back down to 2500 for 3-4 seconds then drop to 900 rpm.

You take a propane torch and turn the gas on then put it by your intake pipes and when/if the rpm's raise you have found your vacuum leak.

Well, atleast there is some good news. A common source of ignition problems is corroded grounds. Take apart and clean your grounds to the frame and motor and replace any wires that look pretty bad. I spent over $400 on parts for one of my cars before I found the loose ground cable on the motor. After I cleaned and tightened it she ran beautifully. The crappy part is that all the parts I bought were unreturnable.

I will look at grounds, and I will be messing with it over the weekend.
I did find someone who says he knows XJs and Mikuni carbs, so we
will see on Monday if he can figure it out.
    I will keep you posted.
    Thanx

    Update!!!!
If you do the Seafoam treatment, change your spark plugs after
I bought this bike a month ago with new plugs, I did Seafoam treatment and it ran great for a while. I am guessing it burned up the plugs????
I put new plugs in today and its running great again.
    $7.50 was worth it.
And I'm gonna get a spare set tommorow...............
    Thanx : )
