Welcom aboard! There should be a viewing glass on the brake side of the engine you use that to check the oil level. As far as the shaft drive being noisy, mine runs nice and quiet. Check your differential in the rear hub make sure the fluids are ok. That is the only thing I can suggest for that. I'm sure somebody else could shed some light on that if it persists. Also in your profile information under "signature" you should put your year and model bike so people know what you have then you don't have to type that in every time you post. Good luck!

Does it have the correct type of oil?
the best way to ensure this is to change it out.
Another possibility is the wheel bearings themselves need to be re-greased or replaced (any small amount of damage on one bearing will produce noise and very quickly spread to the rest)

You want to make sure you have the right Oil in there. PO's aren't particular about what they'll put in a bike to get it sold.

If you think its noisy ... run a 20/50 Racing Oil in it.
Castrol GTX 20/50 is a good racing Oil and you'll be revving-it-up high enough to need it.

    Get yourself a Workshop Manual.
You'll be needing one for that bike.

Look-up the procedure for resetting the Cam Chain Tension.
That might be some of the noise you are hearing.

These DOHC Engines and Shaftie's have their own signature noises that they make. Valve Train noise and Middle Gear whine are two that come to mind.

Go to your account, please ... and fill-out the "Signature section" with thumbs about your bike.

Year - Model - Miles - Any Mods - Date of last Carb Cleaning.

We'll all get together and get you running for checkered flags before the end of summer.
