new rings

    Hi, I bought new piston rings for my 1981 XJ550.....im just not sure which one is no 1 and which one is no 2....square edged or the round edged.??...my guess would be the square edge ring is no 1 and the round edge no 2...anyone confirm?

    The top ring is the one with rounded edges and the second ring is the one with the squared , angled really, edges.
    The bottom rings are the same as each other, so it doesn't matter which way they go when sandwiching the oil ring.
    Just remember to stagger all the rings for a good gas and oil tight fit.

    thanks for that....probably just me again but i couldn't find that information anywhere....then again...i can never find two matching socks either.

    Also, there should be some markings on the rings so that you don't put them in upside down.
    The side with the markings faces up.
