IM the Newbie and yes you can call me that. i just recently purchased an 81 XJ750 seca from my roomate, he decided to go bigger. Anyhow its been a great bike to ride as a starter, and enjoy it tremendously. BUT there sre a few things that need to be worked on before its fully road ready. i guess as you all know the master cyclinder is almost impossible to get to on this thing and he decided to drain because the breaks were locked up from not having a battery in it for so long. at least thats what he told me. is there and easier way to get to it or should i take it to a shop to refill the master cyclinder and bleed the brake system. secondly the fuse box was masacared by some one with no electrical knowledge so i decided to upgrade with the blade fuses instaed of glass, works like a charm and it was easy woth a little help. its the standard black with the red stripe like ive seen on alot of others on the forums.

    My plans/dreams-
    set of drag bars
    pod filters/ re jetting
    fresh paint
    turn signals
    round headlight non HID
and whatever im game for any suggestions.

The brakes locked up has nothing to do with the battery being out.

You will need to rebuild the calipers (and probably the whole front brake system) if they were locked/locking up. You can do it yourself if you have a manual and are careful. If you pay someone to do it you may end up spending a whole lot of $$$ and not necessarily getting it done correctly.

There are download-able ones, though it's not very well received to do so, i wont post a link, cuz i forgot it, but its by a guy named eric cartman try googling it.

anyways, I got away somehow, rebuilding my brakes without putting in new seals, and they dont leak a drop and work great. you just wrap the cal8iper in a towl, and use compressed air to blow the piston out, i used brake fluid as my cleaning agent and it worked great, and i cleaned my mc the same way, and it's a biotch, if you're planning on modding it, you might as well get a handlebar mounted mc and run line to the divider it will save you alot of headaches

you probably should purchASE NEW SEALS AND REBUILD KIT, UNLESS YOU GET A DIFFERENT MC

    NOT RECOMMENDED.

Caliper seals are simply a pair of rubber rings; the channels they sit in are key. They need to be replaced as the rubber deteriorates over time, as do the seals in the M/C and the brake lines themselves.

Schooter, you should know better than to recommend shortcutting.

XJ LAW: NO SHORTCUTS. Especially when it comes to brakes.
