OK so I bought a 82 xj550 maxim the bike came with no air filters or exchust.
The main jets on the carbs were jeted to a 135the pilots are stock I putter after market
Slip on mufflers. And pod filters I oreded new Carb boots and #40 pilot jets does
anyone know if that combo will make my bike idle on its own? Cuz that's my. Problem it won't
Idle it runs great just don't idle.
Also one of my pilot jets are striped anyone know how to get that out?

there so many issues going on here, but I'm going to tell you right now, there is only one way to make those pod filters work, and thats the beer can mod, look it up in the search. No amount of rejetting will make pod filters work right on their own, and you can potentially ruin your motor.

Where's Militant Buddhist? He's running pods on a 750 and hasn't complained about them that I've seen.... maybe you can take his 750 mods and scale them using the relative relationship of stock jet sizes between 750 and 550. He's in WA, so the altitude should be similar.

For the stripped pilot screw... I think a small Easy Out and matching drill bit will be needed.

You get one or two shots at getting the Pilot Mixture Screw removed with an E-Z Out.
    Drill. Heat. Seat EZ-Out. Extract.
    DON'T heat the EZ Out.

    If it doesn't come out.
    Use a Drill Press.
Drill the Upper Section of the Pilot Screw out until a "Band" of Brass is left.
Let the Screw Shaft and Spring out out of the Orifice.

Slice through the Band using a DREMEL Fine-line Cutting Tool.
Make the INCISION on a Bias (angle cut).
Grind and Wet Stone a Needle Point tip on a Steel Nail.
Use the Nail to peel the Band away from the Threads.
Grab it with Needle Nosed Pliers and twist the Band away from the sides and out.

Chase the Threads with the appropriate BOTTOM TAP.
    BOTTOM Tap.
