Well, I had a week long training in Texas and while I was gone my girlfriend bought me a used motorcycle. We had been looking for a used bike because I have a small honda and had been using my brothers V-Star to take her for rides. It turns out to be a 1982 Yahama XJ 650 J so here I am. It really doesn't look to bad just needs a little work so I can trust it enough to ride her along with me. I have a few questions the first is the exhaust is in bad shape mostly the mufflers. The dealer said they were no longer available. I don't mind spending some but don't want to invest more than what the bike is worth. What should I do? Where is a good place to buy parts? The carbs act like they a gunked up because I had to run it with the choke on a little but I would like to fix the exhaust first then a good tune up and fluid change. I would be thankful for any help you guys can give.
    Thanks
    Marty

    Welcome to the XJ community................
For exhaust and parts, Check out oldbikebarn.com.
And of fixes, search the forum. I give a BIG thumbs up to "Rickomatic"
    Regarding carbs.

Welcome to you Marty. Sounds like the little lady is a keeper! I'd melt if my sweetheart bought me a bike, used or otherwise. There are a few (and I do mean a few) folks that still make the aftermarket systems for these bikes. You could always go the long route and have an exhaust shop whip one up for you but I love the stainless steel exhaust one of our Kiwi brothers cobbled together. There is a link to the fellows page under the TCI links.
