I just bought a 82 XJ Seca RJ 650.I have power to all the lights and such. Not getting spark to all 4 cyl. It has a new battery and I checked the fuses ,( ok), cleaned all the contacts and connections deal with the ignition. I bypassed the side stand accordingly to my Haynes Manual by grounding the blue/yellow wire and still no spark.
I have to buy a multimeter to to check the coils,tci,volt/reg etc.(on payday). I do get a neutral light displayed. My question is how can I bypass the rest of safety features killswitch, switch for the clutch etc. in the interim so I can eliminate everything but the coil pickups, rectifier and tci. Thanks.

If the bike has been sitting for while, could be the plug wires are corroded. Unscrew the plug caps and trim about a 1/4 inch off. Screw the caps back on and give it a try. That's something cheap and easy.

If you have the original fuse box that could be the culprit. Sometimes the old glass fuses look ok but is not. You need a multimeter and touch the terminal not the fuse to make sure that the circuit is closing.

When you hit the start switch, does the engine turn? How are you figuring out that there is no spark? Are you sure is no spark but there is gas being delivered?

It's hard to troubleshoot making all these assumptions.

Should have been more specific I guess. The bike had power everywhere and turned over but no spark by grounding the spark plug to the head. As it happened I was following another thread earlier today where it was suggested as a temporary measure that you can remove the black/white wire at the TCI unit to disable the safety feature switches, which I did and lo and behold I got spark, screwed in the plug and wow it started and ran. Now other than the issue to find out whether it's the side stand or clutch switch is at fault. The killswitch and the neutral switch still works without that black/white connected. The thing is my headlight turns on when I turn on the key' but when the motor starts the headlamp goes off. Now I don't know if that's due to the headlamp relay or because I disconnected that wire at the TCI. If someone can describe or send me a pic of what the headlamp relay looks like it would be greatly appreciated. Tried to find it in the manual but theres 4 relays in the general ares and none of the color codes match up. Thanks.
