Hi guys. I have just bought a 1990 XJ600 and I can't get a spark on 1&4 coil. I replaced the coil with one that works, but still no joy? So I replaced the Ignitor box (TID14-78) and still have the same problem? Do any of you guys have any Idea what the problem might be?? Or is there a way I can test the system - and where would I start? Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is starting to get me :-( Many thanks.

You may have a break in the wiring from the ignitor to the coils, or you may have a bad pick up at the crankshaft.

Thanks for the info Steve. Is there a way I can test if I am getting power from the crank pick up to the Ignitor box?

Find the 2 ends of the wire that goes from the pickup to the ignitor, put a multimeter set for measuring ohms, touch the probes to the wires ends and if the needle moves you have continuity. Then check the wires from the ignitor to the coils. I know it's a pain, but this is how you run down bad wires. Since this is only affecting 1 coil set, it's probably a break in a wire. I'm not sure how to test a pickup though, except with the same technique measure across the 2 ends of the wires coming from the pickup. There are also connectors which may have bad connections, take them apart and clean them with a small rod brush and lube the connector with "dielectric grease".

Thanks for that, I will give it a go and see what happens? At least I now have a starting point to work from - Cheers!
