So my boss recently gave me his 95 GPZ1100. Long story short, I somehow need to recommission the existing valve seats. I've tried plastic polish on a Q-Tip (didn't work), then valve lapping compound on a Q-Tip (still didn't work). There are no used carbs available on ebay.

Anyone have any ideas on how to refinish the seats? I really wanna ride this thing.

Can you take a pic of the seats? If I remember corrrectly they are pressed in, and not easy to get replacements for anyway.

My best suggestion is to stick with the valve lapping compound to polish the seats, but change the tool that you are using. Use the valve needle itself as a lapping tool (use old ones, you will want new float needles anyway).

While there may not be GPZ1100 carbs listed on Ebay (keep checking), you should be able to find the same carb bodies as used on other machines of the era (don't just search for motorcycle parts). If I'm not mistaken your machine uses KEIHIN CVK36 carbs. You can look for that information on the carb bodies themselves, or in the service manual.

One method that worked for me is good bamboo chop stik. Square off the end and grind sides to fit the hole and remove the top half. Using a small drill and valve lap compound polish the flat area at bottom of seat not the actual hole u will see results in 10-15 seconds.
Don't go nuts with high speed but about 50 rpm and moderate pressure.
Check the seat often with a jewellers loupe. Very handy thing to have in toolbox
