i just picked up an 82 xj650j for 500 bucks. it needed the carbs to be cleaned so i got started on that when trouble struck.

on each caarb there are two die cast arms that hold the float assembly in place. the pin that holds the float passes thru both of these arms that protrude out of the bottom of each carb. got me? well,on one of my carbs, one of the arms snapped off when i set the carbs down for cleaning. 8O it broke off clean at the base and im wondering what i could use to put it back together. do you guys know if jbweld would be advisable in a small dose there? its the only thing think i can think of short of replacing the carb altogether.

    thanks!

I know some people here have mentioned using JB weld to fix things like that, but you have to do it very carefully.

Or you could replace the part - I don't know if it is possible, but if it is, chacal has the part!

I am using JB weld to hold a piece of my engine together, and so far it's held up, hot oil and all!

    Welcome Turtlejoint !

This was discussed just last week and a few people gave the nod to JB Weld as a worthwhile fix. Obviously the surfaces must be spotless.

For no worries, you can buy an individual carb in the $50 or less range.

I suggest you read one of the lengthly carb threads while you're at it.
    Good luck !
