Hi, new on this list. Finally getting around to working on the XJ900N that has been an unfinished project for many years. Replacing the non-functioning nuetral switch was the job that took it off the road. Manual says its an engine out job. My plan is to do everything short of removing the motor (no other reason to take it out) and just to raise and lever it sideways till I can get at the nuetral switch.

For the uninitiated, the switch gives you an earth for your starter button. When it fails, can still start with clutch in (gives an earth) but a non-functioning starter button will also cause you to fail a roadworthy inspection, thus my current labors. The switch sits right over the frame cradle on the left hand side - hard to get at.

If anyone has replaced this switch before and has any hints, please let me know, otherwise will update post when I am done, so that if anyone searches they can learn from my travails. Cheers.
