What do you guys think to this engine noise I'm hearing.

It's only happening when the bike is rev'd fast - as in the video, or when hard accelerating. If I ride like a granny and all smooth and slow on the throttle it doesn't happen all the way upto 80mph

I have a few thought on what it might be but I don't want to say anything until I get an expert opinion..

Sounds like a loose heat shield or something similar rattling/buzzing with rpm

exhaust or cam chain hitting the valve cover put your hand on top see if you feel it hit

adjust the cam chain tensioner . make sure to put penetrating oil on it for a few days

As my attention was drawn to the engine I didn't think to look at the exhaust shields.

It's hard to tell in the video but the the heat-shield is vibrating.

So next question - how do I fix it? is it supposed to be stuck on - I see it only clamps on at one side right?

    I know that sound well.

If you watch vid close, you see it vibrate, too.

There is the clamp that probably broke, and there are some tack welds. You'll have to see where the break actually is. In the meantime, wedge a piece of leather behind it. That's what I do... stays quiet til it falls out, then just stick another in

I think it's the tack welds - I'll see if I can re-tack it sometime but yeah for now I padded some heat-wrap in there and it seems good

You could store an extra pair of underpants in there. That way, if you corner with a bit too much gusto, you will have a clean, warm pair ready to go! Would they get hot enough to burn? Leather underpants! Matti is problem solving!

Well the piece of leather I put in there did stop the vibration and then eventually the whole heat shield snapped off on the highway and killed small dog in the car behind me. I'm kidding about the dog...I just wanted it to sound more exciting..:) anyway.. where can I get a replacement heat-shield from or would it be ok to just wrap it in heat-wrap and add to the bad-ass look of the mutt?

As long as it isn't tinny.
DAmmit! My inability to post YouTube links is killing my comedy. Imagine a link to a hilarious Monty Python skit about "Woody and tinny" sounds. One of their best ever.

As a Canadian I have never heard anybody in Canada pronounce 'about' like 'aboot' unless they were putting on a Scottish accent.

I grew up in Ontario and now live on the west coast. Could be the east coasters say it like that but I have never heard it from my Newfie friends, on Codco, or from Rick Mercer.

Makes you wonder how these things get started.

And what Americans call 'Canadian Bacon' we in Canada call ham. I suspect this is a ploy to trick unknowing Americans into thinking they're getting bacon. Don't be fooled!

We definitely said 'Eh' a lot in the 80's but I think that is dying out now. It's been awhile since we've had a Bob and Doug McKenzie movie. Although 'Eh' could still be going strong back east.

And we do subsidise our softwood lumber but don't tell anybody I said so

Syrup. There is nothing else. Pancakes, baked beans, ice cream, eggos, oatmeal, a salmon marinade, even in our whiskey! There. Is. No. Substitute!
Rick Moranis and Dave Tomas are but a small selection of the genius that came from SCTV... never forget John Candy, Martin Short, Catherine O'Hara, Andrea Martin, Eugene Levy, Harold Ramis, Joe Flaherty... Second City: the "syrup" of comedy!

With all due respect to our Canadian friends, when I was visiting Alberta and British Columbia, I did hear a difference in "about" in causal conversation. Not the strong Scottish brogue, just a bit of a twist/difference from the American way of saying "About." More of a shortening of the second vowel sound, rather than a change to it. Very subtle. It is not as distinct or exaggerated as comedy sketches, etc. indicate, but to my ear, the accent exists, at least in central/western Canadian.

BTW - I loved our stay in Alberta.

Fond memory of our first night in Pincher Creek, we went to a quant pizza place in the basement of an old hotel. Recommended by the Ramada hotel clerk. It was excellent pizza. Since it was our first night, I asked the nice young teenager what kind of Canadian made beer they had. She said she didn't know where their beer was made. I asked her to list what she had and I would stop her when I didn't recognize one. She started, "Budweiser, Bud Light, Miller, Miller light"....hohum as she listed American piss....finally named one I hadn't heard of. Great beer, but don't remember what it was.

We are having a beer explosion here in Victoria BC. You can't swing a cat without hitting a microbrewery. Is a small town and we have around 11 of them. Really great time to be a beer drinker. I was in the pub on Monday and we were laughing because they actually had Molson Canadian on tap which we hadn't seen in years. 10 years ago the only thing you could buy on tap was Molson Canadian or Labatts Blue.
