I was cleaning up my workbench today and found a round 5 inch by 1/8 inch rubber o ring gasket. Over the last couple of months, I've : examined the rear brake shoe, inspected the alternator brushes, adjusted the valves which meant I removed the ignition cover. Neither of these last two places have a gasket in them, although they are close to being 5 inches round. but I didn't see any place for a gasket to live in those areas. Any suggestions before I start working backwards on my Goldwing and truck?
    thanks, Rick

If there are no leaks put if on the shelf and save it for later. Gasket sets have extras included that may or may not be needed.

Yeah, except I didn't buy any gasket set and I hate to have an extra piece of the puzzle - and even then, I'm not sure which puzzle this piece came from ! The haynes book suggests putting on some rtv joint sealant on the alternator, so I'm assuming it didn't come from there.

Sounds about the size of the O-ring on the Oil Filter Housing if you planned on an oil change...
