I was changing my oil last night, and when removing the magnetic screw from the center of the drain plug, it broke right in the middle. After a few choice words, I decided to sleep on what to do and call the local dealership in the morning hoping this would be an industry standard part they would have on hand.

I just got off the phone with them, and yes, they do have a drain plug that should fit my bike, but it lacks the magnet.

In the past I have had to wipe off some sludge from that magnetic screw but never any metal parts.

My real question calls for opinions; How important is that magnet, and would you run the bike a long time without it. Is this a good chance to get a "highly magnetic" plug that has been mentioned in previous posts?

It should be a common , easy to find part.

I've also suggested that folks drop a couple button magnets in the oil filter.

I don't see why you couldn't drive around for awhile without the magnet.

I just replace the stocker with an aftermarket unit you can buy at just about any auto store.

    RefinedXJ.

Most people agree that the magnetic drain plug is important. The SAE has done long term test showing the reduced wear.

Let us know if we can help.
