Dumb question, does the oil light come on when the key is turned on? It only comes on when i push the starter button, is this normal? It's been 2months since i've had it running and i've been riding kawasaki's all that time and their oil light comes on when you turn the key on (like a car).
Just finished rebuilding the forks, it starts and runs ok, it's just the oil light. The switch is ok, and if i short the wire to chassis the light comes on ok, just not when i turn the key on. have i just got a bad memory?

yes i believe that's normal for your bike, the oil light is connected to the starter circuit (powered by the ignition fuse).

    cheers,

On these bikes they are level sensors, not pressure sensors. That's the reason the light does not come on with the ignition switch but only when the starter button is pressed. It's a oil indicator lamp test.

Thanks Tibor, Bkerby, Gitbox, i thought i was going crazy! Gitbox, I see you've got a GTR (ZG) going to miss the one i've been riding, the panniers and top boxes have been real handy on trips, just big for every day riding.

Yeah, Knutz, it's a lot bigger than the XJ but it's real nice for the long rides on the slab. The storage and fairing are easy to get used to.

I use the XJ mostly for quick short trips and the Kaw for the longer ones. Plus it's good to have a bike to ride while your working on the other one.
