What kind of oil do you guys use regularily? I'm looking to go to 20w50 grade but i'm wondering how well it works for colder spring/fall riding. I bought my bike in may and it had 20w50. I put 10w40 in it when I changed the oil. I liked how the transmission felt with the 20w50 more but then again I only had that oil in there for about a day.

I am toying around with the same question. I used 10W30 this year and rode until early November. I let it warm up for about five minutes before heading out, and I didn't notice anything abnormal. BTW, I use Rotella T.

What I did notice was the 80W90 in the final drive. Quite sluggish for the first couple of miles. There's no way to warm it up other than to ride it.

Maybe a block heater for the drive casing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,hmmmmmm

I like Shell Rotella 15/40 for engine oil and I use that Royal Purple Diff lube for the final drive. Have not had any trouble here.

I'd say 20w50 is way too stiff for these high reving engines. Especially in the cooler climates we have here in the great white nort. I've been running Royal Purple 10w40 in mine with great results.

I decided to pick up 3 quarts of Valvoline 20w50 to give it a try, gonna have to wait a few more months to ride unfortunately :(

Go to any Big Wally and get the Shell Rotella Synthetic in the blue 1-gallon jug for around $17 or so. It works great in both my XJ650 and V45, no problems in many years of riding.
