oil sensor question

    82 XJ750 J. Oil sensor continues to leak even on side stand. O ring has been replaced twice,
    Are the female bolt holes hollow to the oil sump or are they bottomed.

    The holes are blind. It is possible that oil is leaking past the wires and not past the o-ring. Give the outside a good degreasing and smear some oil resistant RTV around where the wires exit the sensor. If if still leaks then I would pull the sensor and back up the o-ring with some RTV on the flange.
