I have a question. I am no painter... but I don't like the old nasty aluminum. Can i paint over it?

I painted my seat grab bar. I just made sure there was none of the clear coat left over the aluminum, and made sure it was thoroughly degreased before i started. It's not a super high wear item, so the paint has seemed to hold up well. (I just used a gloss black spray paint in multiple coats with a gold spray paint in the recessed line that went all the way around.

The only thing I would do differently on the grab bar would be use a really hard clear coat, or multiple layers of clear. Every time you remove or install the seat it scratches the paint where the latch mechanism slides past it.
