I am trying to resurrect my 82 650.Which I will do.My parts now equal what I paid for the bike.I expected that. But I was wanting to learn how these bikes are made and go together. It is fun so far.One writer here redid his then it got toalled by an ignorant cager. He spent 4500 on a 1200 dollar bike. I probably will do the same, at least 3,000.But its what i want to do.I want to learn these bikes.I had 3 cb650s and abandoned them.I hated the engine design. The gs bikes are the easiest to work on for me so far.The xj is very similar. The xj has less work to get in time than the gs does. And it uses plain bearings instead of roller bearings.A lot of debate has been made over the merit of roller bearings. Someone here might know, chacal for sure, are rings still available for standard bore, or any bore if needed?

I got the parts yesterday. My problem now is the motor was so disassembled and i wasnt the one that did it.Im not sure where the special flanged nuts go.I need a detailed exploded drawing to show the location of some of the stuff. Many look familiar from my days of working on suzuki gs 4 cylinders.Actually just one, but they still are very similar. The difference is, and the only reason I even continue with this whole maxim thing is your parts business.Almost anything I need you have.Having worked on goldwings, gs bikes, and viragos,kz 1000s the maxim is the one that has the most parts availability.z1 enterprises has pretty much all parts for a kz, but your maxim support site is terrific.

I have now 800 in parts. That total is important, but not the issue.I knew nothing about these engines and buying one in good shape and rideable is not the way to learn anything. What will take me hours to do now will take only minutes once i know these engines.

Chacal and xj4ever have kept many xjs on the road. Without them, most of this would be impossible.

As for the price, think of the cost of a new bike. You're going to end up spending less, and your bike will turn more heads. They do not make bikes like this anymore.

Nope- chain drive. My experience with chains has made this a big deal for me in choosing my next bike. I'd rather be the guy riding the bike than the guy maintaining it. Xjs are pretty special! Close though!

I have owned about 50.I am fingers crossed a guy is going to buy my xs1100 this weekend.it is a perfect restoration project.I didnt really want it, but i went 132 miles thinking it was a 650 from the very poor picture the guy posted. But I know someone will want it. I intend having function then form on my 82 650.get it dependable, ride it for some time, then start painting and sprucing. The power will probably be similar to a bandit 600 I owned. The seat is lower which i needed. The buckhorns i have 2 replacement choices in my garage.I have never ridden with the pullbacks but it seems riding leaned over in sweepers would be more difficult.
