i was on a trip and the petcock went bad so my friend (who knows all about bikes :? ) bypassed the peckcock it worked to get me home... but later when i started it .. it started flooding till finally while jumpstarting it.. the oil all just dumped out around the shaft area and clutch... my hope is that because i wasnt driving it and shut it down right when i notices (still like half oil left) that i might not be a super expensive fix.....

i will try to post pics but will have to borrow a cam.. (clutch is pretty much gone.. )

any guess-stimations what im looking at damage wise... dont want to take it to a shop and get hung and the carbys need cleaned real good anyway..

bike is a 83 xj750 love it to death

here is my pupper on it for fun.. she rode about 2k miles last summer

How do you know the clutch is gone?

You probably filled the crankcase with gas from your friends modification and floats not shutting off. That'll fill teh air box and it'll leak out the box.

You need to drain the oil from the engine. It's probably mostly gas anyway. Find where it's leaking from and then decide what to do.

The crankcase breather connects to the airbox in the vicinity of the shaft drive junction.

It sounds like you may be pumping a gas/oil mixture into the airbox, which would indicate what iwingameover is trying to explain.

If you have a carb float or floats not operating properly, an unlimited supply of fuel (petcock issue) will fill up your crankcase with oil which then starts pumping out the breather.

The petcock issue simply "enables" the float problem. The fact that one or more floats isn't shutting off properly is the main problem; the petcock is secondary (although both need to be addressed.)

DO NOT run the bike with gas in the oil and/or until you fix this; you could seriously damage your motor.
