    Hey all,

I recently rebuilt my petcock and while it no longer leaks the vaccum doesn't work quite right. After about 60 miles on a full tank of gas it will start to stutter while riding and stall out at a stop. Then I have to switch it to prime. Needless to say sitting dead in traffic for 30 seconds to a minute is NO FUN!!! 8O My question is will it hurt anything to run it on prime as long as I switch it to on when I park it? Also am I using a lot more fuel in prime? I can always replace it like some of you have if I need too.

It is ok to run on prime. Besure turn to on when not in use . Besure you are using vaccun hose others may collapse when hot.

Maybe try it on reserve instead? Just make sure you fill the tank within a safe number of miles. This way you wouldn't have to keep moving it back and forth everytime you start or park it.

Definitely follow the advice to check on the vacuum line as well. If you had fuel line instead of vacuum line that would explain your symptoms. Fuel line is designed to resist expanding, and vacuum line is designed to resist collapsing in on itself, which could stop your petcock from getting enough suction to open properly.
