Not sure if anyone can help me with an issue I have on my fuel gauge ( 1988 XJ900F )
The gauge was working fine and then the bike would run out and onto reserve but the gauge was still reading 1/4 full . Luckily I have a spares bike so I tried the tank sender unit no joy still the same. Next was to dismantle gauges and fit second hand Gauge unit I had . All worked fine so happy days !
I have gone through about four tanks of fuel and now the gauge has today not going lower than 1/4 .
It goes down to empty if I disconnect tank sender but I seem to be at the start again.
Any Ideas ? Thanks Phil :)

Carefully check the sending unit their are windings inside and an arm on the float the windings may have burnt out on the low setting . Remove sending unit plug into plug , move float arm full up , see if it shows full on gauge , now drop till it shows half, and drop down to empty , it may show 1/4 . This may be the best way to see what it is doing . Do this test quick you don't want it overheating , you may spray some WD40 into the wiper arm , fuel keeps this cool . Cheers
