ok,so this is my super low budget on going project. It's a 82 XJ650. Including the price of the bike I have $900 in this entire thing so far. I gotta get some shorter seat springs, and do a lot of cleaning up and fine tuning as far as aesthetic go, but I love it, and its a blast to ride.

Great looking project. I've never rode a bike that looked like that, but I would love to.

Nice project, but (IMHO) im not sure why every one is apposed to those style pipes, because i feel they fit the profile of the bike.

I've just aquired an 80 XJ 650 with those pipes on it, and if and when decide to bob mine out like that, mine are stay'in on.

i like em too, and im not trying to change the sound so i'm not drilling them out either. if I want to be loud, i have a sportster with straight drag pipes and no baffles that is louud as can be.

these bikes sound how they sound, not much u can do about it

my only complaint is, you cant tell from this picture but those pipes are extremely rusty underneath the bike, im prob just going to spray some bed liner on it and say to hek with it.

Harley, the bobber is LOOKIN GOOD!! Not a bad idea to spray them.. what about ceramic tape??? I hear it might be pricey but might be worth the look.

    thanks for the compliment!

yes, I considered that but i believe I would have to take the exhaust off to do the wrap, and I don't exactly know how much trouble that is. the header bolts are rusted up pretty good and i'm kind of timid with those aluminum heads. I don't want any thing to snap off or strip.

Meh. Just tear em off if thats how you decide to go. PB Blaster or some Kroil and you'll be alright. I broke a couple of block bolts over the winter, it was more a pain to find the right replacement bolt than it was to drill the old one out, heh.
