I just returned a set of standard rings I bought for my 1981 XJ550. The oil ring was too wide to fit into the groove. The part # was correct, my piston is stock. Anyone have this problem? I was charged $25 re-stocking fee.

The part # for std rings for your bike, is: 4U8-11610-00-00
    Is this what you got?
They could have got it wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

Honestly, I think the $25.00 re-stocking fee was unreasonable.

Maybe if it was a Crankshaft and somebody down-the-line had to do some heavy-lifting ... I could see it.
But, not for rings that didn't fit.

(And this would be especially ... if they helped you order the parts)

They wanted to charge me 20%, $40, but the parts guy realized it wasn't a good idea to piss me off too much. I offered to redecorate the parts department and mentioned that " I have no problem going back to jail". lol.

I have used that line a few times myself, Gary!!! Mostly with the daughter's boyfriends. One of my favorites for them is "Your mother will cry when she finds out what I did to you!!!"

Side note: The latest boyfriend pushed me too far Thnksgiving weekend and I had to throw him off my mother's front porch. took a swing at me and almost him Mom. good thing for him Mom was there. She wouldn't let me finish him off. He told me he may have 'accidentally' hit my daughter reaching in her car window trying to stop her from leaving.

I swear to you, one of these days, I am gonna go back to jail.

"I'll bring the restocking fee over later this evening."
    "We'll be closed."
"I know. I'm depending on that. I'll tape the 25-Bucks to a brick, so it won't blow away. I'll try the Mail slot, first. If it don't fit; I'll toss it through the window."

You went to them and had them order the part?? if you gave them the part number that you wanted its one thing. However if you walked in and asked him that I have stock pistons and would like to buy new rings for them and they did the research. I would be pissed off for a restocking fee. I would tell them that they can replace the rings or they will loose another customer.

    I like Ricks suggestion :)

What happened to customer service? Bike shops here act like they're doing you a favour by letting you buy stuff. I don't see how a set of rings is worth $200 either. How much is a set for a SBC? Trouble is is addicted and NEED the parts. lol. I guess I should have bought the rings from chaca. l
