I'm rebuilding the brakes on my '81 XJ 750. I am replacing the brakes lines. The bleeder screw on the right anti-dive assembly is broken and I can't get it out. I understand I can plug the anti-dive units and just not use the anti-dive. Is there any reason I shouldn't do that and is that all the mods I would need to make?

    Thx

If you plug the anti-dive you will appreciate getting some replacement springs from Progressive. THe stock springs were fairly soft, and the front end will dive much more with the anti-dive disabled. If you hae a few bucks (and some beer) to spare, a machine shop can get the bleeder out for you.

I bought forks from a XJ rider who had rear end damage. He did the blocked off antidive, got rid of the air valves up top, and had progressive rework the springs. It was so long ago, I have trouble remembering how the stockers felt. I was happy with the front suspension and brakes. I would get steel braided lines as well, if I were you.

I checked out a couple of machine shops and they said they wouldn't try getting it out. I suppose I can plug them now and decide later whether to rework the springs or find a used parts and replace it along with the brake lines.

As it is, I have the brakes and MC all dismantled. It's time to order parts from Chacal and get back on the road before the summer is over!

    Thanks!

Sounds like a good plan to me. In the meantime keep that bleeder soaked in Kroil. Try removing it every week or two with an extractor (be gentle). You may get lucky.
