I am considering getting at set of K&N pod air filters. Does anyone know if this will cause problems when driving in the rain and the filters possibly getting wet?

My XJ came with those air filters ... for who knows how many miles ...
I pulled them off, as I'm putting new rubbers on, and they look pretty good from the inside, but the paper "element" looks pretty thin. I'm sure they would filter out the chunks, but where I plan on rideing is pretty dusty so I was thinking of making up some "socks" out of a piece of furnace filter material (the ultra fine grind kind).

I've had some on mine for a while and never any problems . Don't forget alot of them call to be oiled and where they are situated (behind the engine , under the tank) hard to get wet
