Ok...so I'm working on my bike and as I'm taking parts off, cleaning and rebuilding things like carbs and brakes and such. I am seeing that some things are going to be easy like chrome fenders, forks, etc.

What are you guys doing to get that engine all purty again? Taking it apart and going over with a dremel? Just polishing up what you can see? Paying someone else?

I'm thinking the hardest things to get to look like new again are going to be the frame and the engine.

personally, i will be starting on my 650 Seca in the next two weeks. I will be stripping off all the body panels i can and grinding off rust i find. I use POR 15 anti rust paint. Its tough as nails and you can apply with with a brush and get a good finish. The engine cases, Dennis Kirk has PJ1 high heat engine paint in satin black, never tried it but looks like i might.

If you don't take the engine out of the frame, it must be cleaned and de-greased, then, you can mix in a can some quality (expensive) silver paint and some thinner, and brush-apply to the engine case. For black, you need to buy "matte" so it's not too shiny, but not flat. Don't thin the black too much. Practice. Don't use $.99 cheap rattle can paint on your bike !!

Engine out - - soda blast, or walnut (cost $100??)
Beautiful, but I'd want a clear coat.
