This weekend I was finally able get the Maxim running and before I did, I turned the petcock to Prime. After a couple minutes, I noticed that fuel was dripping slowly from the overflow tube. When the bike is put to 'On' the dripping stopped.

So do you think I have a stuck float or bad float needle valve or both?

Are the float needle valves still available if I have a bad one?

    Thanks!

Not a good situation, but one that happens to us all the time. Definitely the float needle/seat. You can disassemble and try to clean them up, or replace them.

Here's a float bowl kit from MotorcycleCarbs.com for Hitachi carbs:

(Not for the MaximX with Mikuni carbs.)

The bad part about leaky float valves, of course, is when the fuel ends up mixed with the oil in the crank case.
